Consumer Price Index

November 19, 2008
On a seasonally adjusted basis, the CPI-U decreased 1.0 percent in October after being virtually unchanged in September. The index for all items less food and energy decreased 0.1 percent in October after increasing 0.1 percent in September. Full text: (HTML) (PDF)

Employment Cost Index

October 31, 2008
Total compensation costs for civilian workers increased 0.7 percent, seasonally adjusted, from June to September 2008, the same as the increase in the previous two quarters. For the year ended September 2008, compensation costs rose 2.9 percent. The 12-month increase for September 2007 was 3.3 percent. Full text: (HTML) (PDF)

Employment Situation

November 07, 2008
Nonfarm payroll employment fell by 240,000 in October. Job losses over the last 3 months totaled 651,000. In October, the unemployment rate rose from 6.1 to 6.5 percent, and the number of unemployed persons increased to 10.1 million. Full text: (HTML) (PDF)

Producer Price Index

November 18, 2008
The Producer Price Index for Finished Goods fell 2.8 percent in October, seasonally adjusted. This decrease followed a 0.4-percent decline in September and a 0.9-percent fall in August. Prices for goods other than foods and energy rose 0.4 percent for the second consecutive month. Full text: (HTML) (PDF)

Productivity and Costs

November 06, 2008
Productivity rose 1.1 percent in the nonfarm business sector in third-quarter 2008, as hours fell faster than output. Unit labor costs grew 3.6 percent. Manufacturing productivity declined 1.0 percent; unit labor costs increased 6.1 percent. All rates are seasonally adjusted annual rates. Full text: (HTML) (PDF)

Real Earnings

November 19, 2008
Real average weekly earnings rose by 1.4 percent in October 2008. This increase stemmed from a 0.2 percent increase in average hourly earnings combined with a 1.2 percent decrease in the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W). U.S. Import and Export Price Indexes

November 14, 2008
The U.S. Import Price Index fell for the third consecutive month, decreasing 4.7 percent in October and 10.6 percent over the past three months. Export prices declined 1.9 percent in October, the third consecutive monthly decrease. Full text: (HTML) (PDF)
