- Discontinuance of mailing paper copies of the Midwest Consumer Price Index (CPI) Summary
As of March 1, 2008, subscribers will no longer receive paper copies of the Midwest CPI Summary in the mail. The Midwest CPI Summary will continue to be available through the Bureaus Web site.
A free email subscription service is available for the CPI announcement. Shortly after the CPI announcement is posted online each month, subscribers to this service receive an email message containing a link to the announcement. The subscription form with a list of available regional office CPI summaries (blue cards) is located at http://www.bls.gov/bls/list.htm.
The mailing of regional CPI announcements (summaries) and other regional publications is being discontinued as a result of unanticipated budget constraints faced by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. See http://www.bls.gov/bls/budgetimpact.htm for details.
- The Rise and Decline of Auto Parts Manufacturing in the Midwest
Prior to its recent decline, the Midwest auto parts manufacturing industry (which is three times as large as the regions auto assembly industry) experienced two distinct periods of employment and wage growth: strong expansion from 1992 to 1995 and modest gains from 1995 to 2000. This Monthly Labor Review article from the Chicago regional office examines employment and wage trends within the Midwest auto parts sector from 1992-2006 using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW).
